Happy New Year!
It's that time of the year to reflect back on the old year and look forward to the new one. Each year, I take time to evaluate what worked and what did not work for my shop. Hopefully many of you have already put together your 2011 Operating Plan and if you have not, don't fret, get out a piece of paper or a word document and start working on it today. This is where I also remind you to sign up for our new Team Critiques. One of my initiatives this year (as every year) is my shop's appearance, (photo quality, theme, etc.) The majority of my photos have a white background, and since I suffer from Background Envy, this week's interesting finds are not about the product in the photo, but the background:
The first background that I love is this one from Ikabags and while the photo may be a little dark, I just imagine how great that wood panel would look in color:
The next one is from Pansy Maiden's Shop. I don't know why, but I love this bright red door, and it's doesn't overwhelm the bag, because of the white step and wall...
and here is another one from her shop:
How about these two from Beesnetta's Shop. Look at how the bag just pops out of this photo
and I do love the look of a rustic chair and how the item is not centered in the photo....
Until next week, Happy Sewing!
Helen

Nice post! This is interesting for me, because precisely I've been thinking to take as a resolution for this new year, to take more photos with plain white, or colored background. As I've researched and the majority of the bags sold frequently are with plain white background. Last year I took the decision to take different bag photos, using more natural backgrounds, or how the bag would be seen in the "day by day" usage.. Let's see. Maybe I can find a balance between both worlds :).
Thanks for your post!

love them! I am always on the lookout for a good background...and still looking :P
love that last one!
Those pictures show wonderful backgrounds. Great ideas!
Thank you,
Judi
I love the interesting backgrounds in photos too. I'm surprised that the plain white backgrounds lead to more sales. I'm always drawn to a great photo-more like an add in a magazine. They do take more time, though.
The pictures themselves are art in their own right.
